The technological-organisational-environmental factors affecting radio frequency identification adoption intention in the Jordanian healthcare sector

Abstract: In the healthcare setting, radio frequency identification (RFID) has myriad applications such as tracking medical equipment and hospital assets, identifying and monitoring patients, and enhancing healthcare facilities' management and supply chains. A total of 52 factors based on the technological-organisational-environmental (TOE) framework were identified to be ranked according to importance by respondents. In total, 637 respondents participated from five groups; top managers, middle managers, physicians, pharmacists, and nurses. The findings showed that ' relative advantage', 'top management support', 'governmental support and policies', 'information privacy', 'accuracy of information generated by RFID', 'organisational size', 'cost', 'resistance of employees to change', and 'performance gap of the existing information system' are crucial factors affecting the adoption of RFID in the Jordanian healthcare sector. In this study, we extracted the crucial TOE factors of adoption among the pool of factors; further studies may apply this model of most important factors to other samples to validate the model.
