International Journal of Multicriteria Decision Making, 2012, vol. 2, issue 1, 74-93

Abstract: Indian technical education is one of the largest educational systems in the world. Due to liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation, the demand of quality technical education is increasing rapidly to meet the challenges of a developing economy. In this context, the performance evaluation of Indian technical institutions has become a research issue. This paper is focused on the performance evaluation of seven premier Indian Technical Institutions under multi-criteria environment. The aim of this study is to suggest a fuzzy multi-criteria decision making (FMCDM) approach to evaluate the alternative options in respect to the stakeholders' preference. Fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) is applied to determine the relative significance coefficients of the evaluation criteria and multi-objective optimisation on the basis of ratio analysis (MOORA) method is applied to rank the alternatives.
