An integrated fuzzy-based multi-criteria decision making system for optimum lean initiatives barriers performance: a case of an Indian pharmaceutical company

Abstract: Lean initiatives imply the elimination of all types of waste in any company. Lean initiatives are affected by various barriers. Identifying assorted lean initiatives barriers is complex task due to vagueness and uncertainty in competitive environment. In the present work, lean initiatives barriers identified for the case company are lack of management support, lack of innovative culture, resistance to change old work environment, insufficient training and development and elongated implementation time in specific multi factors leadership and management, financial capabilities, skill and expertise, organisational culture and manufacturing strategy. The study is carried out witnessed without weightage criteria and with weightage. Using an integrated Fuzzy-based multi-criteria decision making approach, lack of innovative culture is emerged as top lean initiative barrier followed by insufficient training.
