Productivity science and sustainability – a value-driven synthesis

Abstract: Organisations need to be au courant about the change in attitude and behaviour regarding productivity and its relationship to sustainability. Such a stance would ensure that stakeholder value management and conventional financial performance goals do not conflict in the pursuit of competitiveness and protection for the environment – these being perceived as the 'natural economy'. To accomplish this vision, which embraces social responsibility and scientific productivity advancement, frameworks, guidelines and examples are presented to allow the enlightened business to control its triple bottom line. The level of expected ethical conduct should extend far beyond what is legally required to what is morally right, with a strong kinship between value congruence and resource utilisation.
