International Journal of Manufacturing Technology and Management, 2007, vol. 10, issue 1, 121-135

Abstract: Despite its promising future, a surprising dearth of research on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) applications has been conducted so far. By using simulation approach, this paper conducts a case study on a CVS Distribution Centre (DC) in Taiwan to simulate the differences between the current DC operations and likely impact on DC operations and costs once the RFID technology is introduced. Given the current RFID development, our simulation results show that the adoption of RFID does have a positive impact on overall operating efficiency of the CVS DC under study. To maximise economic advantages after introduction of RFID, this paper suggests that RFID application at the case level is feasible and recommended at this moment.
