Strategic decisions in the manufacturing function: dealing with their complexity using decision-analysis techniques

Abstract: The days when markets were stable and predictable belong well in the past. Operating in an increasingly changing environment requires a number of strong core capabilities built in the manufacturing function, enabling a company to realign its manufacturing operations under changing market environments in an agile manner. However, possessing these capabilities is necessary but not sufficient. Having the ability to effectively exploit them is central to a company's success and future prosperity. The process of decision analysis constitutes a reliable and coherent way of assisting such situations through a range of theorems, tools and techniques built over years of research and expertise.
