How digital technology and innovation can be leveraged in small and medium enterprises: a bibliometric analysis

Abstract:
This study aims to review major research trends in leveraging technology and innovation in the context of small businesses or SMEs. This study employs bibliographic mapping to throw light on the major research findings considering innovative capabilities of SMEs with the adaptation of advanced technologies. The results of this study show that developing countries such as India are leading in research on leveraging technology and innovation in SMEs followed by Malaysia, USA, China and Nigeria. The most frequently used terms were SMEs, MSMEs, technology adoption and innovation, and the five clusters that emerged after analysis of keywords were entrepreneurship, digital transformation, internal capabilities, sustainable development and innovation. The results of the present study shall guide numerous stakeholders, including researchers, to find the level of interconnection of emerging technology with innovations in businesses.
