Abstract:
The paper presents the evolution - more dynamic than it was anticipated - of the Turkish economy in 2013, which was stimulated by monetary policy easing and increasing public spending, especially on productive investment, as well as the forecasts on growth prospects for the period 2014 - 2015. The analysis of the forecasted evolution of main macroeconomic indicators, based on the data provided by “European Economic Forecast, Spring 2014" of the European Commission and the OECD’s "Interim Economic Outlook, May 2014", showed that the slight slowdown in economic growth since the second half of 2013 continued in 2014 due to economic policy measures implemented by the government during the period May 2013 - January 2014. In 2015, there was a tendency to relaunch the productive and investment activities. The article highlights the major risks for economic developments in 2014 - 2015 related to the instability in international financial markets and intensifying political tensions in Turkey.
