Turkey

Conjunctura economiei mondiale / World Economic Studies, 2015

Abstract: In 2014 Turkey recorded a slowdown in economic growth as a result of the reduced exports to Russia, Ukraine and Middle East. The first part of 2015 was marked by the relatively weak growth of the economy amid uncertainty regarding the outcome of the general elections of 7 June, which were considered by analysts as a crucial step for the future of Turkey's democratization. For the period 2015 - 2016, the European Commission experts indicate a slow recovery in productive activities and investment, in the context of faster growth of domestic demand due to increased purchasing power of consumers. According to analysts, the more favorable evolution of the economy during this period should be regarded as an opportunity for the Turkish government to speed up structural reforms. The economic policy measures should focus on rebalancing the economy, recovering the confidence of business environment and consumers, stimulating investment and reducing the external deficit.
