Abstract:
After five consecutive years of slowdown in global trade growth, both compared to its robust performance from a historical perspective and in relation to world production, international trade flows have recorded the poorest growth performance in 2016 in the post-crisis period. Several positive signals emerging in the first months of 2017 support the expectations, that this time global economic recovery and, on this basis, the revival of global trade are gaining momentum. Actually, all projections published in the first half of 2017 predict a gradual pick up in the dynamics of trade over 2017-2018 amid revival in global growth, but also warn against the rising economic, political and geopolitical risks, and in particular the growing uncertainty associated with trade policies.
