Abstract:
Within the framework of the European Union's Common Security and Defence Policy the migration component plays an extremely important role. This article aims to analyze the impact of illegal migration on the security of the EU citizens and also the Union's response for combating this phenomenon. The first part of the article will analyze the migration situation in the European Union in the year 2017, namely the situation of illegal crossings at the EU's external borders or other aspects such as illegal stays and asylum applications. The second part of the article describes the measures on combating terrorism and cross-border crime caused by illegal migration. The role of border guards in combating terrorism and security checks carried out by them is therefore analyzed. Also, this part of the work discusses the impact of maritime cross-border crime on the EU and measures to combat it.
