Abstract:
This article starts with the description of the factors that triggered the development of the ICT sector in Romania during the 2005-2017 period, focusing on the legislative initiatives, the adaptation of universities to the market conditions, the increase of the number of students in the ICT field, the ways to create the infrastructure communications and the national strategy for the digital agenda. In the second part, a comparative analysis of the situation of Romania in the digital age compared to the European Union states is made using several indicators: macroeconomic, fiscal digital indexes, digital economy and society index. Also, here is conducted a cluster analysis in order to discover similar behaviors of some EU member states regarding the digitization of their societies.
