COMMENTS ABOUT „STATE OF THE UNION 2018” REPORT (I)

Abstract: Annual Report of the President of European Commission ”State of the Union 2018”, from mid-September consists of about 17 chapters, but the most important are the speech of Jean-Claude Juncker and the 10 priorities set by the European Commission, which will be further presented. In his speech in front of European Parliament Juncker referred to the economic growth, Greece’ recovery, EU responsibility on global scene (Paris Agreement), the European sovereignty (European defence union),the importance of the European elections, the social dimension of Europe, the completion of a security union, counteracting terrorism and illegal immigration, the global EU leadership, the relations with Africa, the Brexit, challenges for the EU until the summit of the European Council from Sibiu, the agreement on the EU budget after 2020, the international role of the euro, deepening of EMU, strengthening of the common foreign policy, the intra-European disunity show. Progress towards fulfilling the 10 priorities of the European Commission looks to: 1. A new boost for jobs, growth and investment, 2. A connected Digital Single Market, 3.A resilient Energy Union with a forward-looking climate change policy, 4. A deeper and fairer Internal Market with a strengthened industrial base, 5. A deeper and fairer Economic and Monetary Union, 6. Trade: A balanced and progressive trade policy to harness globalisation, 7. An area of Justice and Fundamental Rights based on mutual trust, 8. Towards a new policy on migration, 9. A stronger global actor, 10. A Union of democratic changes.
