SINO-RUSSIAN COOPERATION: IMPLICATIONS FOR THE RELATIONSHIP WITH EU

Andreea-Emanuela Drăgoi and Ana-Cristina Bâlgăr

Euroinfo, 2019, vol. 3, issue 6-7, 3-12

Abstract: Currently, the international arena is defined by a series of geo-political centrifugal tensions, of which the sanctions imposed to Russia after the annexation of Crimea and the concerns about the consequences of the ambitious Belt&Road project launched by China are important aspects to be considered by the main global economic actors. Confronted with this reality of the New World Order, the EU is faced with the imperative of redefining its co-operation with this two great powers in a logic that can no longer be perceived in a simple antagonistic key, but also cannot abdicate from the fundamental principles of respecting the democratic principles and the market economy. In view of this context, our research aims to analyse both the dynamics of the Sino-Russian relations and the implications of this new Antante on bilateral cooperation (on trade relations but not only) with the EU.
