RENEWABLE ENERGY POLICIES: EU ANALYSIS AS COMPARED WITH THE USA AND JAPAN

Alina Dumitrescu

Euroinfo, 2020, vol. 4, issue 3, 92-108

Abstract: The present paper resorts to a comparative analysis of the policies in the renewable energy sector in the EU, USA and Japan. The research is based on the statistics provided by Eurostat, as well as on the EU documents, the renewable energy initiatives adopted by the three major actors and also relevant literature in this field. Both developed and developing countries are amid the transition process towards a less carbon-intensive energy system that is more based on renewable energy, and therefore much more sustainable. The gradual cost reductions linked with the process of obtaining energy from renewable resources, the advances in digital technologies and the promotion of efficient support schemes for both producers and consumers are also significant opportunities for the successful implementation of the energy transition.
