Abstract:
The pro-European orientation of the Republic of Moldova, but also the launch by the European Union (EU) of the Neighbourhood Policy were perceived by the Russian Federation as a threat to its areas of influence. The main trading partner of the Republic of Moldova has initiated, in this context, actions to penalize the European approach. Trade relations between these two states have been significantly affected since the conclusion of the Association Agreement with the EU and even more after a pro-European party won a parliamentary majority. The article briefly presents the evolution of the geopolitical rhetoric of the Republic of Moldova and identifies the economic and commercial actions undertaken by the Russian state according to the vector of the Chisinau executive. The paper also examines the impact of the current geopolitical context on bilateral trade relations.
