THE IMPACT OF THE JUST TRANSITION ON THE EU MEMBER STATES

Alina Dumitrescu

Euroinfo, 2023, vol. 7, issue 1, 60-74

Abstract: Presently, the concept of "just transition" is a global political imperative, and encompasses policy objectives and a set of best practices aimed at minimizing the negative impacts of industrial and economic transitions on workers, communities, and society. The working documents of the European Commission on the just transition are presented, as well as the challenges, opportunities, and examples of good practice in some member states. The main objective of this article is to identify solutions and formulate recommendations for Romania. In this sense, in Romania, local community representatives and civil society must be involved alongside the government and companies to ensure the good governance of the just transition, at the regional level (NUTS2) the institutional framework for efficient management of funds should be developed and the last but not the least should be developed active employment measures and social policies.
