ADVANTAGES AND LIMITS OF THE GREEN ECONOMY

Alina-Cerasela Avram

Euroinfo, 2023, vol. 7, issue 2, 18-30

Abstract: The European Union is fully transitioning from the linear economy model, considered unsustainable in the long term, to the one specific to the green economy. Replacing the traditional economic model with one based on renewable resources is a long-term process. The targets announced by the European Commission regarding CO2 emissions, the thermal rehabilitation of buildings or the replacement of polluting means of transport with eco-friendly ones are highly ambitious. In addition, adopting green principles does not depend only on the will of economic agents or consumers. Still, it depends on the costs of replacing current technologies, the resistance to change in organizations or the existence of a market for sustainable products. These aspects make adopting green technologies in specific sectors, such as hospitality, difficult. The research is based on the critical analysis of the literature in the green economy field. It discusses concrete aspects of the advantages and limits of the green economy for the member countries.
