Abstract:
The EU has committed to fostering a climate-neutral economy through various strategies and action plans, such as the European Green Deal, REPowerEU, and Fit for 55. Advancing the green transition and promoting the development of renewable energy are crucial aspects of achieving this goal. This article aims to explain how the green transition has facilitated an increase in the share of renewable energy usage among EU Member States, using quantitative analysis based on Eurostat data. It also identifies the main challenges faced by these states in increasing the share of renewable energy in their national energy mix. Steady progress has been made in recent years; however, additional incentives, including state subsidies, are necessary to further advance renewable energy development and achieve green transition objectives. Furthermore, significant performance disparities among Member States highlight the need for targeted measures to enhance energy security and promote renewable energy integration
