Renewable Resources – a Way of Putting an End to Environmental Pollution and an Inexhaustible Asset

Abstract: Being “green†is not anymore just a problem of trendy or only for people with special ideas. “Green†became a global issue, involving governments, international organisations, regional authorities. Renewable resources are becoming more and more important, especially in countries where the dependence of imported fuels is high. The climate change put a huge pressure on carbon emmissions and endorsed programmes which take into consideration alternative resources. The European Union is the most advanced entity in this regard, adopting in 2001 the “Directive for the Promotion of Electricity from Renewable Energy Resources – RES†and established ambitious national targets, together with incentives to implement them. The results may not be as expected, but the EU is determined to keep – and fasten – the track for RES. Some of the renewable resources (wind, waves, solar, geotermal, biomass) have already been succesfully used in different countries and USA has also become “green†, with a rapid development in different fields. Humankind has understood that renewable resources are not only perpetual, but they also contribute to the environmental protection.
