Abstract: As part of the Winter School of the Doctoral Course in Technology Assessment, held on December 13, 2011, in the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, it was presented the thesis plan "Electroencephalographic study in children with hearing loss with and without hearing aid." This document is the result of the same presentation where we highlight the fundamental parts of our work. The auditory system is one of the sensory systems more proactive in cognitive, psychological and social development and consequently relational of the individual so any disturbance that affects it has a huge impact at all levels. Evaluate, diagnose, and (re)habilitate the hearing of the individual is the area of professional doctorate. This study appears in the professional and also personal context but also thinking it may be an effective contribution in improving the quality of life of people with hearing loss, from an early age. This study will employ the EEG as a tool in the evaluation of hearing ability. Children with hearing loss diagnosis, hearing aids users, followed in the paediatric outpatient otolaryngology from Hospital Garcia de Orta will be evaluated. The EEG will be performed in two steps – with and without hearing aids – while the child is subjected to a sound stimulus.
