Abstract: Working paper on the impact of participation in the work experience programme on young workers' entry into working life in Ireland - explains objectives and institutional framework of the programme developed to combat high youth unemployment; evaluates job placement rates and duration of labour force participation; concludes that work experience programmes alone are unsuccessful in solving labour market problems of hard to place youth, and should therefore be incorporated into basic skills training programmes.
