Environmental protection and its employment effects on miners in small and artisanal mines in Zimbabwe

Marilyn. Carr, David. Laurence and Richard. Svotwa

ILO Working Papers from International Labour Organization

Abstract: This study draws on the considerable amount of literature available on the small and artisanal mining sectors in Zimbabwe and examines the extent of the problem to determine if solutions can be found to the current conflict between employment and environment. It is hoped that the study will assist the Government of Zimbabwe to develop appropriate policies and implementation measures, as well as provide governments elsewhere with useful guidelines for consideration.
