Providing information to outgoing Indonesian migrant workers

Graeme. Hugo and W. R. Böhning

ILO Working Papers from International Labour Organization

Abstract: International experience indicates that there are two distinct moments in time when different kinds of information are required: (a) pre-migration information (when a person contemplates taking the decision to migrate abroad and is faced with many uncertainties); and (b) pre-departure orientation (when a person has signed an employment contract and is about to go abroad). In between there is a crucial moment when he/she is confronted with an employment contract that he/she would find difficult to understand the implications of. To obtain correct information is the right of every worker.
