Abstract:
Traces the development of the private and informal economies in China and examines the Shanghai model of the informal economy. Describes specific policies and measures taken to develop the informal economy in Shanghai and presents case studies to illustrate the role of local street communities in assisting the establishment of informal labour organizations.
