Abstract: Provides an overview of the minibus taxi industry in South Africa and outlines the process of formalization that the industry has undergone since the mid-1990s. Investigates conditions of employment and examines the strategies of the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) and the South African Transport and Allied Worker's Union (SATAWU) in organizing and catering for informal workers and owners in the industry.
