No 2026/199, IMF Staff Country Reports from International Monetary Fund

Abstract: Tanzania has achieved strong economic growth and macro-financial stability, underpinned by prudent macroeconomic management. The medium-term outlook is favorable, contingent on sustained reform implementation, particularly to strengthen the business environment and support a more dynamic private sector. However, downside risks have increased in both the near and medium term, from the war in the Middle East, social tensions, and reform delays. To set the stage for long-term economic growth and resilience, converging to SDG targets and reducing poverty are critically important, especially considering that the population size is expected to double by 2050.
