Italy: Financial Sector Assessment Program-Technical Note on Selected Issues in Insurance Supervision and Regulation
International Monetary Fund
No 2026/239, IMF Staff Country Reports from International Monetary Fund
Abstract:
The Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) is the cornerstone of insurance supervision and regulation. The Code of Private Insurance (CAP) defines IVASS’s objectives and powers and ensures alignment with the EU regulatory framework for prudential, market conduct and macroprudential supervision. IVASS collaborates with other financial authorities, such as Banca d’Italia (BdI), Italian Financial Market Supervisory Authority (CONSOB), and the Italian Pension Fund Supervisory Authority (COVIP) through memoranda of understanding and coordination committees. Its governance has strong links to the BdI.
