Abstract: To formulate and implement strategies in high-technology environments one needs an interdisciplinary framework. One needs to understand the role of the individual entrepreneur, the appropriateness of organizational policies, the evolution of a firm's distinctive competencies over time, and the financial implications of competitive strategies. This special edition has brought together some of the most advanced studies on these topics. The contributors come from two important groups: academics with a strong orientation towards practice and consultants with a strong orientation towards theory. Each contribution is the tip of a different iceberg. Behind each contribution is a wealth of research and practical experience in formulating and implementing strategies in high-technology environments.
