Abstract: O objetivo deste texto é, no debate sobre cotas para mulheres no legislativo, que vem sendo feito a partir do referencial do liberalismo político, acrescentar novos argumentos, a partir do referencial teórico republicano. Com isto, pretende-se deslocar a discussão sobre se as mulheres teriam direito a cadeiras no legislativo, ou se teriam interesses específicos a serem representados, para a reivindicação de que elas devem poder exercer a liberdade de serem representantes. Tendo isto em vista, o texto defende que é legítimo que o Estado apresente medidas legislativas para contornar os obstáculos a essa liberdade que as mulheres enfrentam, em razão da dominação masculina exercida sobre elas. The debate about sex quotas in Legislative Power has been developed from a liberal referential. The aim of this Discussion Text is to add new arguments, but from a republican perspective. With these arguments, the discussion about women`s rights and interests is displaced by the vindication of their exercising of liberty to be representatives. In view of this, the text defends the State legitimacy for purposing laws to confront the obstacles faced by women due to the masculine domination over them.
