Abstract: The purpose of the EU typology is to provide a classification scheme for the analysis of the situation of agricultural holdings at Community level based on economic criteria, allowing comparisons between holdings belonging to various types of farming and between the economic results obtained at national and Community level over time. The first EU typology in force until 2007 fixed the basic economic criterion (Standard Gross Margin) and parameters for the classification of agricultural holdings. The continuous reforms of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) have led to the structuring of a new typology, which foresees a new basic economic criterion (Standard Output). This typology should be applied in all Member States from Agricultural Census 2010. The aim of this paper is to show, after a short presentation of two typologies, that the adoption of the new coefficients inevitably leads in some cases to a different classification for the same agricultural holdings as against that obtained through the previous typology
