Abstract:
In Europe the convergence of capital adequacy rules has been one of the biggest issues during the 1980s. This paper explores the nature and importance of capital adequacy for commercial banks in the Europe beyond 1992. It is suggested that this importance cannot be denied but that its singular impact may been overstated. Strategic and managerial problems require additional knowledge beyond capital adequacy regulation.
