CYBERCRIME IN EUROPA

Abstract: The latest technological advance has generated a multitude of possibilities for states, companies, citizens, as a major step in improving the quality of life and the way of doing business, but it has created the opportunity for criminals to carry out illegal activities, via the internet. Thus, the phenomenon of cybercrime has spread globally, manifesting itself in the form of extremely complex attacks, crimes in the area of advanced technology that are aimed at computer systems as a result of the global use of the Internet and the enormous volume of information. The European Union focuses on cybercrime and, through the Directives, it gives legal space to prevent and combat it, by punishing the attackers, who manage to commit these attacks and adapt continuously. Thus, in order to fight cybercrime, companies, the European Union are actively involved in conducting studies and research designed to help combat and eradicate these crimes. The purpose of this paper is to present the phenomenon of cybercrime in the European Union by exposing the most representative definitions, types, modalities of action and the effects they cause, the measures that are taken at European level through the Directives, and also research on the impact of cybercrime.
