Alternative spaces for youth culture vs historical heritage. Youth activism for common good

Abstract: The research article is exploring through a comparative analysis young people’s form of participation in cultural space. The framework of the research is in the context of the city of Varna, Bulgaria. The methodology of the research includes desk research, interviews and a comparative analysis. Its main scope is to differentiate the sense of belonging through elaboration of young people’s diverse activities of participation. The concept of turning space into place is arguing how young people can reclaim through cultural activities a sense of belonging. The review of the diverse forms of youth participation in modern forms of culture and expression provides novelty concepts on the role of youth people in preserving cultural heritage. Moreover, the research findings are providing practical implications on better inclusiveness of the youth cultural spaces into the belonging to the site specific communities – neighborhood/area.
