Abstract: Using the panel data set at the local level, we investigated the performance of local manufacturing industry and its changes across region over time, especially focusing on the dynamics of productivity changes between pre- and post-economic crisis. We found significant differences both in the performances of local manufacturing industry and in the dynamics of productivity changes across region. Our results indicate that the financial crisis may stimulate manufacturing firms to improve production efficiency and that manufacturing firms in Kwangju and Kangwon demonstrated relatively “small trade-offs†between efficiency and technical change.
