Abstract: This article presents an exhaustive review of the forms of foreign trade and the emergence of new means of payment in Antioquia in the period 1850-1886. For this purpose, an investigation of the existing press was carried out. We went to the Newspaper Room of the Universidad de Antioquia and to the documentary archives of the Patrimonial Room of the Universidad EAFIT, discovering that, in the 19th Century newspapers oriented to business and economic matters, it was frequent to find issues related to the bill of exchange. Likewise, a section called "Revista del Mercado" appeared, in which valuable information was consigned, such as data related to the price of bills of exchange abroad.
