Abstract:
Research into the fundamental problems of man's existence in the world's ecosystem has received a strong stimulus from Dennis L. Meadows' now well-known work on The Limits to Growth. It has indeed been the recognition of the limits of The Limits of Growth that has spurred other studies of the subject using different modeb and approaches. In this review article, two of these studies are discussed and evaluated : the work of M. Mesarovic and E. Pestel presented as Mankind at the Turning Point: The Second Report to the Club of Rome ; and the Latin American World Model developed under Amilcar Herrera at the Fundacion Bariloche in Buenos Aires.
