Abstract: This article underscores the significance of research in order to "get agriculture moving", an absolute necessity in view of Indonesia's growing population. Citing the government's efforts at increasing rice production as outlined in RE PELITA, Indonesia's Five Year Economic Development Plan, the question is raised whether rice production can reach the targeted levels and whether ft can brought to a still higher level or plateau.
