Abstract: International comparison of the factors affecting tuberculosis death has some difficulties. The information is sometimes incomplete or inconsistent because of the lack of standard criteria utilized consistenly by all the countries observed. The risk or errors in these estimations is considerable and a direct comparison is hazardous because of that reason. The advantage of summarizing the tuberculosis status in a specific country or countries, in terms of tuberculosis morbidity in a particular year is that it provides a readily intelligible measure of the impact of tuberculosis on the community at a specific time. Because of chemotherapy, some medical experts believe that tuberculosis mortdity is no longer a valuable index for this purpose. This approach dso facilitates comparisons of the tuberculosis situation in different countries. It provides guidance on the likely magnitude of the tuberculosis problem in the World, or more specificdly, in a certain region or country during the next 10 or 15 years.
