Abstract:
This paper uses West Sumatra household data taken from SUSENAS data 1992 to examine the extend to which parental human capital influences he/her schooling attainment of the children. This study confirms that father's education, as a proxy of parental human capital, has a bigger effect on child schooling than mother's education. This effect is still consistently occurred when child schooling was measured through the likelihood of children unattended in a formal school system. The effect of father's education on children schooling is channelled through household economic factors. It reveals that there is a tendency to change intra-household allocation among parents according to children's life cycle
