Abstract:
The analysis in this paper based on data collected in the survey of heavy industry from 1975-1995 conducted by the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). Heavy industry, as sub-sector, was then further categorized into the chemical industry (ISIC 35), non metals (ISIC 36), metal product (ISIC 38), and other industry (ISIC 34 and 37). Trancendental logarithmic meta production function, and SURE (Seemingly Unrelated Regression Equation) was selected as the method of estimation. It is found that the most appropriate meta production function to illustrate Indonesian economic growth in the sub-sector of heavy industry is non homotetic meta production function with biased (non neutral) technological progress. There fore, the economies of scale is not constant and the technological progress is biased. There are differences in quality or efficiency of value added, capital and labor for different industries. Hence, the meta production function can be divided in chemical industry, non metals, metal product, and other industry.
