Abstract:
This study analysis factors affecting the amount of sugarcane consumption in Indonesia and makes some projection on the total amount of sugarcane needed by this country up to 2010. The findings indicate that in Indonesia sugarcane still becomes the main source of sweeteners for households and food and beverage industries. Consumers' preference for sugarcane tends to increase, especially in the rural areas. The projection results show that in the period of 2000 2010 Indonesia needs more than 3 million tons of sugarcane annually.
