Abstract:
The demand for shares of agricultural companies in the Jakarta Stock Exchange is highly responsive to the changes in macroeconomic conditions in Indonesia. The main variables which have significant influences on the demand for agricultural shares are the exchange rates, interest rates, inflation, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and US$ interest rates. During the crisis, the strengthening of US dollar value increased the demand for agricultural shares at the stock exchange. This is mainly because the agricultural companies listed at the Jakarta Stock Exchange have export orientation. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) also has a positive effect on the demand for shares of companies in the agricultural sector. Meanwhile, interest rates, inflation, and US$ interest rates have negative effects on the demand for agricultural shares.
