Abstract:
By making use of a system approach integrating production, trade, employment, fiscal and monetary aspects; formulated in a micro-macroeconometric model this study aimed at (1) to study the probable impacts; of trade liberalization on the national economy performance in varying condition by observing changes in some macroeconomic indicators : national income, economic growth, inflation, balance of trade, balance of payments, employment, and income distribution, and (2) to formulate strategic policy alternatives needed in coping with trade liberalization era to enhance the national economy performance in varying condition, especially in attaining a sustainable internal and external balances and fair income distribution. The main conclusion of this study emphasizes the need for the economy to reorient its industrial strategy in order to get rid off the crisis and return to the growth path and be highly competitive in the liberalization era so that it can optimally capitalize its richness and diversity in factor endowment and its locational advantage at the edge of Asia-Pacific area as well, as the basis of its comparative advantage in responding to the dynamic of international market development.
