Zu den Kosten und Nutzen der Türkei in die Europäische Union

Frank Baumgärtner and Ansgar Belke

Chapter 11 in List Forum Band 31, 2005, vol. 2, pp 179-190 from List Gesellschaft e.V.

Abstract: The question as to whether and when the European Union should open accession negotiations with Turkey has given rise to a heated debate not just among the political and academic communities, but also among the European public at large. Whereas some expect major economic and geopolitical benefits from Turkisch EU Membership, others fear that it would change the nature of the Eurpopean project and destroy its original rationale. This contribution throws some light on the issues with an eye on economic theory of optimum integration areas.(Original text only available in german language)
