Abstract:
Minority elites are made up of exceptional individuals, whose performance ratio exceeds the average class they belong, occupying dominant positions in society, united by the attributes of "consciousness, coherence and conspirativity" arising from the same group membership, with an exclusive lifestyle prestige and held under the rule and have the ability to exercise power or influence in relation to the masses (non-elite). Based on the classic set of Pareto elitism thesis, Mosca and Michels, the present study is an overview of the main theoretical approaches of contemporary political elites: elitism radical having as representatives on Thorstein Veblen, Charles Wright Mills, William Domhoff, 2 ) pluralistic elitism backed by Raymond Aron, Joseph Schumpeter, Robert Dahl and 3) democratic elitism treated at length in the works of John Higley, Heinrich Best, Jens Borchert, Andras Körösenyi and Frederick Engelstad.
