Abstract: Departing from the situation of the recent „ethics boom" in various sub- disciplines of applied ethics, the paper will attempt to approach the issue of ethical expertise and ethic expert. Admitting the interdisciplinary profile of ethical expertise, the paper will discuss the possibility for individuals with a philosophical formation to gain the abilities that make possible the ethical expertise. Various counter-arguments to the idea of philosophically-based ethical expertise are examined, the conclusion being that one can lay the foundation of expertise in morals by having a solid training in philosophy.
