Abstract:
The sociology of deviance emerged as a distinct field of social knowledge, trying to identify and explain the forms of deviance in society, such as alcoholism and mental illness, suicide, sexual pathologies, crime, corruption, etc. In Romania, before 1989, this subject was considered taboo, very few research teams being dedicated to investigating deviant manifestations. This article is a review and evaluation of the work of a research group of the Institute of Sociology of the Romanian Academy, before and after 1989, that initiated researches regarding deviance, publishing a series of books, studies and articles in this area.
