Employment Adjustment in Japanese Manufacturing

Abstract: 1. Introduction and summary: Firms determine employment in accordance with the planned production in each period. Here, employment refers to the product of the number of persons and work hours, namely, manhours. There is a time lag in changing employment in response to this required employment when employment is increased or decreased according to actual business conditions. "Employment adjustment" is the adjustment of employment upward or downward.
