Japanese Economy, 1992, vol. 20, issue 4, 69-87

Abstract: Since June 1991 the press has reported much about the Big Four (Nomura, Yamaichi, Nikko, and Daiwa) and many other securities firms making up losses for their institutional investors. During the course of this reporting, it was learned that both Nomura and Nikko have connections with yakuza gangsters and these securities scandals became a big political problem.
